Sick Days

I’m just plain sick today but, I think that in my headache/nausea  induced brain fog I managed to figure out my environment is the cause of my malaise this winter and last.

I’m pretty sure if I had access to any measuring device it would tell me the air quality in this trailer is bad (from my symptoms I suspect formaldehyde). And I quote:

“People who may have concerns about IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) often mention the following symptoms as health concerns:

  • dryness and irritation of the eyes, nose, throat, and skin,
  • headache,
  • fatigue,
  • shortness of breath,
  • hypersensitivity and allergies,
  • sinus congestion,
  • coughing and sneezing,
  • dizziness, and/or
  • nausea.”

Part of the problem is that the windows freeze shut in the winter. I even tried heating them with the blow dryer for my hair but to no avail. So all I can do is open the screen door window. Thankfully they still work.

The other issue is that the ventilation in here depends on those crazy fans in the bathrooms that shake, rattle, and roll every time you turn on the light. Horrible things and every once in a while I unhook them. Obviously a bad idea.

Add to that the cold weather outside(making a person want to stay inside), lack of cows (I always blame being unhappy on the no-cows syndrome), and cleaning products I’ve been using in abundance lately, it’s no wonder I’ve been feeling like death warmed over. I’m going to fix it one way or another. I have way to much to do to be unproductive.

  1. Ugh, those windows need something – when the weather warms a bit, can you maybe grease the tracks with WD40 or something so they slide open better? And I found that having critters in the house made me remove the return vent covers and vacuum inside – since they are designed to they suck out air they also suck out fur, dander etc. and thats where it gets trapped…

I turn the heat way down at night – i cant stand a hot airless room, so i know exactly what you mean! Hope you feel lots better soon!

  2. OH I hope you get to feeling better!!! and this post isn’t snowing….

  3. You could try getting a diffuser and diffusing some good healthy essential oils, Young Living has some good blends, like Purification, Thieves, and R.C. that are particularly good. Or you could diffuse Eucalyptis Radiata, or Melaluca oil. Either one would be helpful.

  4. Oh friend, feel better!

  5. Gee I have all those things you have listed above. I never thought about it but we never open our windows. I keep telling my hubby I need to go in for a check-up. Things always come up and my appointments seem to take back seat.
I sure hope letting some fresh air inside will help you. And I agree that you can get dried out so hydration is very important.
Miss you over at Blogspot. And like the falling snow on your blog. Take care!~Ames

  6. Definitely have to be careful with cleaning stuff when there is no ventilation.
I hope that’s all it is. Should clear up quickly then.
    *hugs* ♥

  7. Maybe your sewer vent is plugged from snow, ours used to do that.
