My Last Day

But I somehow knew it would be my last day.

  I rode Wilbur.

  He sure is big.

And pretty and so was the day, as pretty a fall day as I can ever remember.

  Moved a herd.

Then checked another. My butt was sore by the end. I didn’t mind. I ‘ve had the one nice summer I pleaded God for. I Love the Lord for his goodness to me and for the trials he blesses me with.

But the truth is I’ve been diagnosed with a nasty cancer, chemo and radiation to begin next month.

I’m glad I don’t have to worry about a place to keep old Pic. He’s safe in his pasture in the up-yonder. Just Blue and me now and Lilly the barn cat.

So I’m thinking sad stories aren’t much fun which makes me think I’ll just leave my blog at that. If I make it to the other side of the cancer I might come back here. If I don’t look for me in the clouds. I plan on asking if I can have a job doing cloud sculptures on the other side.

Love ya, all

  1. You WILL come out on the other side.
Make sure to surround yourself with family and good friends. Try to get some counseling so you will have some realistic direction and information to help you progress through these muddy waters.
I have lived with my blood cancer for 15 years.
I was initially given only 10 months to survive after my diagnosis. Keeping a positive attitude is key. Having a good dog and cattle to talk to helped immensely.
Continue this blog. Tell us what is happening. Please.

  2. Try to keep in touch with another “old cowgirl” Ya know we don’t give up – Every thing may seem really dismal now but there will be a ray of sunshine along the way. You have brightened my day since I found your site. Keep your spirit.gal!

Don’t hang up the spurs -yet.

  3. So many people love and care for you, sometimes it does help to know that. I lost my husband a month ago and the love and caring have just poured in to me. Let us your friends help you through this, we will see you ride again.

  4. I wish I had better words to express how my heart breaks for your right now. I can just imagine how afraid you are and how much you hurt inside. Please know that we are all praying for your recovery, for your reconciliation with your cowboy and that you get to ride again some day.

While I understand why you may not want to write sad posts, I think I speak for many when I say that we still hope to hear from you so we can be there to share your struggles with you. You are not alone.
God loves cowgirls, even old ones like us, he will be with you through this all as will we.

  5. I agree with everything the others have said, so hang in there cowgirl! I will tell you something I haven’t shared on the internet before…I, too have been through the cancer battle. It was scary, difficult, and long, but I’m still here. I’m finally feeling almost like my old self again, just older and slower. 🙂 Rely on our Heavenly Father to help you through the really rough days. He loves us! Please leave a note on here once in awhile to let us know how you are doing-good or bad. We care. I will be praying for you and your cowboy. He’s scared too, but doesn’t yet know how to deal with it. You are one tough old cowgirl!
With love, hugs and prayers, Lilyrose

  6. Oh dang girl that is not good. Prayers that your treatment will be successful and that a certain someone will stand by you in sickness and in health.
And that once again, you will ride a good horse.

  7. I will be keeping you in my prayers, as always. So many people fighting cancer this year.
Very sad to hear of the divide between you and your Cowboy, though. That is saddest of all.
Take care and God bless. He is an awesome God. ♥

  8. Im so very sorry.I will be praying for you.Thought you had a wonderful marriage…praying you go into remission and can somehow have a horse again.I pray that you get to keep your condo and will be ok financially

  9. Please say hello now and then and let me know how you are

  10. I have enjoyed this blog so very much and will miss it a lot. I am sorry to hear of your health problems, cancer is such a scary word but there has been so many new things discovered and treatment is rough but they work. My friend has had chemo for three years and the doctors told her she had about six months when they found it. Hang in there. Sorry about the cowboy, he does not know how to handle this new thing, it is scary to him too I imagine. You will be in my prayers and God is still in the business of answering them. Post a note now and then just to let us know how you are. It might help others in the same battle Bush Babe of Oz just went through a bout of this and I think it might have helped others to know what to expect. I will miss you.

  11. Dear Cowgirl,
I’m so very sorry to hear of your health problems, & I join many, I’m sure, in praying that treatment will be successful & that you will enjoy a return to health & to the saddle & to the prairie that you love.
I will also being praying very hard that your Cowboy will find the strength & kindness to support you throughout this trial, the heart to recall his devotion to you, & that the two of you will be able to rekindle your great love affair.
I will be watching & hoping for your return, or any little update you can manage; I have enjoyed so much reading of your adventures every week & I’ll be missing you.
    Wishing you all good things,
    Mrs Shoes
